[Review] 1984 - George Orwell

No comments :
Title of Book : 1984
Author : George Orwell
Publisher : Signet Classics

Written in 1948, 1984 was George Orwell's chilling prophecy about the future. And while the year 1984 has come and gone, Orwell's narrative is timelier than ever. 1984 presents a startling and haunting vision of the world, so powerful that it is completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the power of this novel, its hold on the imaginations of multiple generations of readers, or the resiliency of its admonitions. A legacy that seems only to grow with the passage of time.

America's #1 bestselling author, James Patterson, brings us a magical story about a love that transcends boundaries . . . Jane Margaux is a lonely little girl. Her mother, a powerful Broadway producer, makes time for her only once a week, for their Sunday trip to admire jewelry at Tiffany's. Jane has only one friend: a handsome, comforting, funny man named Michael. He's perfect. But only she can see him. Michael can't stay forever, though. On Jane's ninth birthday he leaves, promising her that she'll soon forget him.
Years later, in her thirties, Jane is just as alone as she was as a child. And despite her own success as a playwright, she is even more trapped by her overbearing mother. Then she meets someone-a handsome, comforting, funny man. He's perfect. His name is Michael . . .

Join The Shoestring Club
When the love of her life, Ed, announces his surprise engagement to her best friend, Julia Schuster is distraught but determined not to let them see how much she’s hurting. She spies a remarkable dress in Shoestring, her sister’s designer second-hand shop, and knows she’ll only be able to stagger through the wedding day, showing everyone how over Ed she is, if her body is wrapped in its soft silk chiffon. Unfortunately it costs mega bucks and she’s barely hanging on to her job as it is.
Arietty Pilgrim can’t and won’t attend her fiercely competitive school reunion unless she can arrive wearing exactly the same dress. But working as an elephant keeper in Dublin Zoo does not a millionaire make.
But fate has a funny way of bringing people together. Just as Julia starts to flounder amidst family troubles, problem drinking and a broken heart, she meets Arietty and the two of them set up The Shoestring Club – time-sharing one extraordinary dress and beginning a life-altering friendship.

Fall into Reading Read-a-thon 2013 Goal Post & TBR list

No comments :

Hey guys! so today's the first day of Fall into Reading read-a-thon. This read-a-thon is hosted by The Bibliophile Sisters. This is actually the first time I join any read-a-thon so I'm pretty excited. Anyway, I was going to post my goal and TBR list this morning but I'm sick and couldn't get out of bed. Now I'm feeling much better. So, my goals are :

  • Read 3 books. I've got homeworks already and some of them include reading textbooks or journal paper. I'm really hoping I could read for pleasure this week so I don't expect myself to finish many books. Three is enough.
  • Post daily updates on blog
  • Write 2 reviews (1984 and The Shoestring Club). I've finished reading these two books days ago but I couldn't get myself to write the reviews. It's either I got too many homeworks from college or I'm just too lazy
  • Enjoy the read-a-thon! this is my first, so no pressure :)
