February 2026 Wrap-Up & Favorite

February Wrap-Up & Favorites
Source: personal collection

In the previous warp-up post, I said that I had a reading slump. So in February, I still try to pick up my reading pace by reading horror/mystery books. Lo and behold, I read more books than I expected.

How to Use Your Enemy How to Use Your Enemy - Baltasar Gracián (★★★)
This penguin little black classics contain fragments of Gracian's The Pocket Oracle and Art of Prudence. There are 100-ish maxims included in this one. It supposedly will help us, the readers to navigate life in a world full of deception. Some people find this book cold and manipulative. However, let's face it, real world is not as black and white. Gracian didn't exactly tell us to exploit people. What I'm trying to say is he's brave enough to tell us the harsh reality through this book. The fact that Gracian was a Spanish Jesuit priest is funny. Reading this reminds me a lot of The Art of War by Sun Tzu. I think these two books come from the same category. Will I read the full book? probably but I'd say that this book is one of the little black classics I don't regret picking up.
Strange Houses Strange Houses - Uketsu (★★★)
Strange House is the first book in Uketsu's Strange series. Plot-wise, each book is not related to one another. I like this one better than Strange Pictures. The mystery is heavily influenced by Japanese culture which I love. The premise is there are houses which hold hidden and disturbing truth and they are discovered through the houses' strange floor plan. Though the concept of strange spaces at home is not new, but I still enjoy how it's used in this book. I recommend this book for those who love mystery/thriller.
Tentang Suatu Tempat di Wilayah Kinki Tentang Suatu Tempat di Wilayah Kinki/About a Place in the Kinki Region - Sesuji (★★★★)
Honestly, I picked this book because it was so hyped on X, to the point that I had to pre-order it online. I suggest to just dive into this one without really knowing anything. All you need to know that it's so atmospheric and creepy. This book is set as a compilation of articles, blogs, interviews found during an investigation on strange events happening around a region in Japan named Kinki. Traditional Japanese beliefs heavily talked about here, so you know what kind of creepy I'm talking about. If you love and could handle Japanese horror, I highly recommend this book.

February Favorites

Series

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3
It's the end of an era. The final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty was finally released at the end of 2025. I put it off a bit because I know that this is it. I read the trilogy way back then but I still remember how it ends. However, I'm curious as to how they would execute it on the show. It doesn't disappoint. I like what they did with Conrad and how Belly grows as a person. When the show ends, it feels bittersweet. It's been quite of a journey and I enjoyed every moment of it.

Anime

Grandpa & Grandma Turn Young Again
I watched this anime series because it has an entertaining premise. Basically, there are Grandpa and Grandma who live in a countryside who somehow got the gift to turn young again. Both grandpa and grandma were good looking when they're young, so many funny complications ensue. This show is unexpectedly heartwarming. I spent the last several years of life living alone far away from home and I've never felt so envious of having a big family before watching this show. It only has 12 episodes so it's not that long. I highly recommend to check it out.

That's it for February. I hope I'll read as much if not more in March. How was your February? Did you read or watch anything good?
