December 2025 Wrap-Up & Favorites

December Wrap-Up & Favorites
Source: personal collection

I should have finished writing this wrap-up post weeks ago. I just couldn't get myself to start (lol). The month where I should have been more free at work, where I expected to read a lot more books. I got distracted by other things which I kind of regret investing my time to. If you know the truth, you'd laugh with me. So I end up reading one book only; A penguin archive edition nonetheless, which is pretty short. That's fine. At least later I realize what's going on with me and able to shift my focus into something that's worth my time.
Lois the Witch Lois The Witch - Elizabeth Gaskell (★★★)
This novella follows a girl named Lois who's just orphaned and forced to leave her home in England so she can live with her uncle in America. Living in a new environment, with her distant family, she found she's unwillingly involved in the family's drama. Set in Salem, Massachusetts, this novella demonstrate how terrifying people can be when they have evil intention supported by ignorance. It shows how jealousy can lead to hysteria. Lois the Witch is based on the Salem witch hunt which is sadly a true historical event. Though it's a novella and supposedly a quick read, the beginning feels a bit slow to my taste. But once the conflict shows up, it picks up the pace. This is not my first time reading Gaskell's work, however if you're new to her, I think this is a great introduction to her work. I recommend it to read.

December Favorites

Series

Firefly Lane
The only good thing I experience in my December, I guess. This series is an adaptation of a book series by Kristin Hannah. I know the book first but never got the chance to read it. So when I know that the book got a Netflix adaptation, of course I put it on my list immediately. Firefly Lane tells the stories of two girls with different backgrounds who've been friends since high school. It spans decades of their life, following the up and down of their friendship. It's bittersweet and heartwarming at the same time. It's not always rainbow and sunshine, but touching nevertheless. I highly recommend this series to watch.

That is it for December. With this post, my wrap-up for 2025 is finally all done. Will I do these kind of post in 2026? yes. Will I be more discipline in my posting timeline? Not sure (lol). I'll work on it.
