In the previous volume, we meet a group of new characters consists of Abraham, Rosita, and Eugene. Rick and his group agree to accompany Abraham  on his ‘mission’ to bring Eugene to Washington DC. This volume is more about these new characters, especially Abraham. We get to look a bit into his past and his struggle living in the world full of zombies. The highlight of this volume for me is when Abraham talks to Rick about his past and his struggle, which Rick can relate to. In this volume we’re also reintroduced to characters that we’ve met before. After the prison story arc, the group is on the road again. I’m still not sure if I like this Washington DC mission. We’ll see.

In this volume something terrible happened to one of the main characters which led to more deaths. New threat came from a group that later known as the hunters. Besides this new group. A new character also introduced to us. This new character’s intention is unknown at first.
The struggle to maintain their humanity has always been the problem that the group has to face. In the previous volume, we learn from Rick’s discussion with  Abraham about how they address this problem. The death of a particular character in this volume seems to make Rick rethinking the whole thing.
I always have difficulty distinguishing Rick and Dale when Dale doesn’t wear his hat. They look so similar. Moreover, both act as the conscience and the leader of the group. Sometimes it confuses me, but once Andrea comes to the picture it becomes clear who’s who. Also, my favorite is when the group decided to attack the hunter. Andrea is one skillful shooter. She’s just awesome.
This volume ends with a shocking confession from Carl. Maybe it’s expected, but still it’s quite shocking. Despite of the hardship that the group faces, the Washington DC trip is still on their plan. So we’ll see how that would end.

This is the most exciting volume that I’ve read. Especially because this volume is the closest one to the episode that’s currently airing on TV. In this volume, the truth behind Washington DC mission is revealed. There’s a shortage of food supply in the group so they have to start rationing it. But then a stranger came to them and ask them to go with him to a ‘safe place’. This ‘safe place’ (or Alexandria) apparently has a wall built surrounding it so the walkers won’t be able to get the people.
I’m glad that Rick and the group encounter this Alexandria. After the false hope that Eugene gave, it’s nice to see another possibilities of a future. Rick being Rick, can’t trust the people in Alexandria just like that. He gets suspicious all the time. It’s understandable after all the horror that the group went through. The other member of the group also had a hard time adapting to the way Alexandria people live. It’s sad to see how the group thinks that maybe this safe place is too good to be true. I’m excited to read the next volume. Season 5 of the show almost ends, I can’t wait to read ahead the show.
