Title of the Book : The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
Author : Mark Haddon

Christopher John Francis Boone knows all the countries of the world and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but has no understanding of human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched. And he detests the color yellow.
This improbable story of Christopher's quest to investigate the suspicious death of a neighborhood dog makes for one of the most captivating, unusual, and widely heralded novels in recent years.

Today is my last Sunday living in Bandung! I'll be back home soon. Yes! I try my best enjoying the weekend by snuggling in bed, reading a book, and drink hot chocolate. This Sunday I'm reading A Really Awesome Mess by Trish Cook & Brendan Halpin. I got a free copy of it from Netgalley.com. I'm almost done reading this book and so far, I like this book. I'm bonding with the characters sometimes it feels like I'm a part of their unique group. Nice weekend.

After more than twenty years of marriage, Chloe Sinclair comes home one night to find that her husband, Nate, is gone. All he has left behind is a cryptic note explaining that he's returned to their childhood town, a place Chloe never wants to see again.  While trying to reach Nate, Chloe stumbles upon a notebook tucked inside his antique copy of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." Written in code, the pages contain long-buried secrets from their past, and clues to why he went home after all these years. As Chloe struggles to decipher the notebook's hidden messages, she revisits the seminal moments of their youth: the day she met the enigmatic Sinclair children and the increasingly dangerous games they played to escape their troubled childhoods; the first time Nate kissed her, camped out on the beach like Robinson Crusoe; and the elaborate plan she and Nate devised, inspired by "Romeo and Juliet, " to break away from his oppressive father. As the reason for Nate's absence comes to light, the truth will forever shatter everything Chloe knows--about her husband, his family, and herself.

Apa sih bayangan kamu tentang orang Viking? Nih, ada beberapa jawaban: mereka adalah pelaut ulung, kuat, pemberani, tapi juga berangasan. Nyaris nggak ada orang Viking yang kurus, lemah, dan canggung. Nyaris...
Kamu belum ketemu Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, sih...

Tapi bahkan dia pun tak sanggup mencegah pembunuhan berikutnya.

Summer Reading Redux, Booking Through Thrusday

Do your reading habits change in the summer? Do you take your books outside more? Do you curl up in the air conditioning? Do you read fluff instead of serious books? Are you too busy playing in the sun or gardening or whatever to read much at all?
The answer is YES! especially this summer. Usually, I'll get more time to read and I get to finish many books. But this summer, I have to do internship for university credits and it takes a lot of my time. So I don't spend much time to read :(.

Do you have to do internship and don't get much time to read too?

Today’s Musing Mondays asks…
What do you think of books that give you recommended reading lists? Do you read them? Do you use their suggestions? Why/why not?{eg. “THE BOOK OF BOOKS: The Continuously Updated Book Guide to Recommended Reading...” or “BOOK LUST” by Nancy Pearl}

My answer :

Honestly, this is the first time I know that there are books which give reading list recommendation. So, no, I don't read them because I've never found one of those books. But if I ever found that kind of book, I think I would read it. Just out of curiosity. That doesn't mean that I will surely use their suggestion. It still depends on what kind of books that they suggest. I open to any kind of books but sometimes I could get a bit picky. Like Goodreads' recommendation list, I'll still look for the information of the books they suggest and decide whether those books fit my taste or not.

How about you ? feel free to share your answer in the comment below or leave a link to your Musing Mondays :)

There are two sides to every breakup.
This is Jordan and Courtney, totally in love. Sure, they were an unlikely high school couple. But they clicked; it worked. They're even going to the same college, and driving cross-country together for orientation. Then Jordan dumps Courtney -- for a girl he met on the Internet. It's too late to change plans, so the road trip is on. Courtney's heartbroken, but figures she can tough it out for a few days. La la la -- this is Courtney pretending not to care. But in a strange twist, Jordan cares. A lot.
Turns out, he's got a secret or two that he's not telling Courtney. And it has everything to do with why they broke up, why they can't get back together, and how, in spite of it all, this couple is destined for each other.

I'm reading The Dr Pepper Prophecies by Jennifer Gilby. I got a free copy of it from the author last month and I forgot about it so, I guess I have to finish it as soon as possible. Still reading The Book of Secrets by Elizabeth Joy Arnold though. Haven't finished it yet and I'm also still reading The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice.

Favorite Series ... [July 9, 2013]

No comments :
Some of the books I've read are series. There's a time when I really enjoy the series and sometimes I have to  bear reading a not-good book just so I could finish the series. I have the habit to finish the series even though one of the book or even the entire series suck. So, I want to share the series that I enjoy (so far).

4 Seasons (?) by Ilana Tan
I'm not sure about how to call this series. Consists of Spring in London, Summer in Seoul, Autumn in Paris, and Winter in Tokyo. Each books has their own main character and they are connected indirectly to the characters from the other book. Ilana Tan is an Indonesian author. I read them when I was in high school. I think this is a good teen series written by an Indonesian author.

Hannibal Lecter Series by Thomas Harris
I love Hannibal Lecter (is it weird that I fancy him?). He's a legendary serial killer. My favorite book from the series is The Silence of The Lambs. Even though Hannibal Rising disappoints me, I can stand reading it because I want to know the horrible dark past of Hannibal and (of course) I love Hannibal Lecter.

[Review] To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee

No comments :
Title of book: To Kill a Mockingbird
Author: Harper Lee
Publisher: Qanita

"Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird."
A lawyer's advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel—a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unswerving honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina and quiet heroism of one man's struggle for justice—but the weight of history will only tolerate so much.
One of the best-loved classics of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has earned many dis-tinctions since its original publication in 1960. It has won the Pulitzer Prize, been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, and been made into an enormously popular movie. It was also named the best novel of the twentieth century by librarians across the country (Library Journal). HarperCollins is proud to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the book's publication with this special hardcover edition.

Patriotism, Booking Through Thursday

3 comments :

So, Fourth of July here in the USA … Do you ever read books that could be considered patriotic? Rousing stories of heroes? History? Brave countrymen & women doing bold things?
What would you recommend if somebody asked you for something patriotic–no matter what your country?
Be as specific or as general as you like?

Patriotism ? I don't think I ever read books that could be considered patriotic. Heroes ? nope. History? I don't think so. So far, my have-read and TBR list is full of fantasy, dystopian, paranormal, YA, chick lit, mystery, detective. Hmm ... Could The Lord of The Rings trilogy be count as patriotic books? Anyway, I'm open to any patriotic books. How about you ? Have you read those kind of books? or maybe you could recommend me a good patriotic book? :)
