The hilarious follow-up to A night in with Audrey Hepburn from your favourite new author. Perfect for fans of Lucy Diamond and Sophie Kinsella.
The last few months have been a whirlwind for Libby Lomax, not only is she dating the hottest man on the planet, but there now seems to be a decent career alternative on offer to the failed actress one that she seemed unable to escape. She can hardly believe that life is finally turning around.
But her optimism seems short-lived when she realises that Dillon O’Hara is about as far away from steady boyfriend material that it possible to get. Then, when another uninvited guest, in the form of Marilyn Monroe, turns up on her ancient sofa, Libby finds she would willingly bite her own arm off for a return to normality. Thank goodness her best friend Ollie is still there to keep her feet on the ground.
Libby doubts that Marilyn is really the right person to offer her relationship advice, but perhaps she should listen up, before it’s too late...

-----------------------

A Night in with Marilyn Monroe is the second book in the Libby Lomax trilogy. This book still follows our protagonist Libby Lomax, an actress turns into a jewelry designer. The a night in series is about Libby and her enchanted sofa which can make Hollywood iconic women magically appear out of nowhere. These magical figures will help Libby figure out her life choices. If the first book Libby was visited by Audrey Hepburn, this time it’s Marilyn Monroe’s turn. Although it’s the second book, you don’t need to read the first book before starting this one. The necessary background is still given in timely fashion. While the first book sets up Libby Lomax’s general background and focus on her finding her passion and figuring out her career (with a bit of romance of course), the second book focuses on her love life and her relationship with her family. By the end of the first book she’s dating a hot movie star Dillon O’Hara. At the beginning of this book we find out that Dillon is not a good boyfriend and he ditches Libby in the most unfortunate situation. Then with the help of Marilyn Monroe Libby realizes that she has to stand up for herself and starts paying attention to those who actually care about her.

You could say that Libby is your typical chicklit protagonist. In the second book, she has her career (partly) figured out. But she’s still struggling in the love department. Even in the first book we already know who she’s supposed to end up with. Although the author teases us with the possibility of another, in this book we know for sure who she was meant to be with. Her wit and antic remind me of Sophie Kinsella’s protagonists. It’s always fun to read about her latest shenanigans. I don’t remember if her family have prominent role in the first book. In this one, we see how selfish (often in ridiculous way) her mother and her sister are. They definitely don’t care about her unless she’s of use to them. Her relationship with her best friends Olly and Nora are also being explored more.

If Audrey Hepburn in the first book is the one giving help and guidance to Libby, this time Libby wants to give back to the Hollywood figure or ghost. Appearing first as a young before-famous Marilyn, perhaps she reminds Libby of herself. Libby decides to also help Marilyn back which is an improvement on her part. Though in the end, it’s only a ghost that she’s helping.

All in all, this book is a funny and fluffy read. In my opinion it’s suitable to read while relaxing and snuggling during winter time. A little trivia regarding the iconic Marilyn Monroe is fun to read especially if you’re a movie buff. Again, this book can be read as a standalone. So if you’re looking a light read similar to Sophie Kinsella’s books, you might want to pick A Night in with Marilyn Monroe.
