[Review] The Time of My Life - Cecelia Ahern

Title of Book : The Time of My Life
Author : Cecelia Ahern
Publisher : Harper

Lucy Silchester has an appointment with her life – and she’s going to have to keep it.
Lying on Lucy Silchester’s carpet one day when she returns from work is a gold envelope. Inside is an invitation – to a meeting with Life. Her life. It turns out she's been ignoring itand it needs to meet with her face to face.
It sounds peculiar, but Lucy’s read about this in a magazine. Anyway, she can’t make the date: she’s much too busy despising her job, skipping out on her friends and avoiding her family.
But Lucy’s life isn’t what it seems. Some of the choices she’s made – and stories she’s told – aren’t what they seem either. From the moment she meets the man who introduces himself as her life, her stubborn half-truths are going to be revealed in all their glory – unless Lucy learns to tell the truth about what really matters to her.

This is the fifth Ahern’s book that I’ve read. Even though I don’t love this book as much as One Hundred Names, I did enjoy reading this book. The Time of My Life is a thick book. Well at least my copy is (mass market paperback that is). Yet, this book doesn’t bore me. Lucy is a very interesting woman. So is her life.
Lucy lives in her own bubble, which includes a tiny studio apartment, a large suede couch, a clothes curtain, and her cat. She thought she has a good life, until a letter came, from her life. Though she felt fine and refused to meet her life, in the end she surrenders and little by little starts to take care of her life.
I always love Ahern’s magical way in telling a story. This time, she makes an analogy of life into an actual person. In Lucy’s case, her life is a man. When I said earlier that Lucy’s life is interesting, what I mean is the man who’s Lucy’s life. Maybe because he is Lucy’s life, he has a lot in common with Lucy. They have this love-hate relationship which is fun to read. Not in a romantic way. They often throw sarcasm to each other that sometimes makes me laugh.
This book touches me in many ways. Like when Lucy wants to do something, her life reminds her that sometimes it’s not that she really wants that. But she wants to do that because of habit. Her life always reminds her, cheers her, and supports her whether in good times or miserable times.
I think The Time of My Life is a kind of book that stays with the reader. It stays with me. This book makes me stop for a while and think about what I’ve done in my life, what I want to do with it. That’s why I gave it four out of five. This book may seem like a typical chick lit book, but it isn’t. This book tells a moral tale in a heartwarming way. I really recommend this book to read.

  6. Aku suka The Brethern, kisah serta perkembangan karakter rada berbeda dgn karya JG lainnya, pembaca hrs menebak-nebak hingga menjelang akhir mana yg bakal 'menang' (^_^)
