March 2024 Wrap-Up & Favorites

March Wrap-Up & Favorites
Source: personal collection

Hello fellow readers! I only finished two books in March because I traveled and went to two concerts in March. March also marks the beginning of Ramadhan month so a lot needs to be prepared and adjusted. Anyway, March was fun (mostly because of the concerts) and because it's Ramadhan, the work hour in my office was adjusted. Still, because of the sahoor and whatnot I ended up sleeping a lot less than I usually do and became a zombie most of the time. Back to the reading experience, here's the list of books I read in March.

Books read in March

Ito Junji Compilation 5: A Deserter in the House A Deserter in the House - Junji Ito (★★★)
A Deserter in the House is the fifth collection by Junji Ito which have been translated into Bahasa Indonesia. This one collects 12 stories with no specific theme surrounds them. One of the stories is titled A Deserter in the House, which set during and post World War II. The twist is expected, but it's still scary nonetheless. Most of the stories in this collection have already been adapted into animation. If you're looking for eerie with a bit of gore horror stories, you might want to check this collection.
Elephant and Other Stories Elephant and Other Stories - Raymond Carver (★★★)
I picked this book because I enjoyed What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. I like Carver's writing style, but I feel a bit uncomfortable with the conflicts from most of the stories in this collection. If you're a first time Carver reader, I wouldn't recommend this but his other collection What We Talk About When We Talk About Love instead.

Movies

Dune Part Two
I watched Dune Part Two and it was epic. In my opinion, it's been a while since a fantasy/science fiction adaptation is this well made. The visual, the music, and the cast are impeccable. I do hope that the movie doesn't differ a lot from the book, though I can't say a lot in this since I haven't read the book. However, watching this movie encourages me to read the book even more. Though this kind of movie might not be for everyone, if you're a fan of fantasy/science fiction, I recommend you to watch Dune.

Miscellaneous

Novo Amor Live in Jakarta
Finally! I get to watch Novo Amor live! Novo Amor's songs is one of my comfort music if you get what I mean; alongside with other indie folk/folk rock musicians. He performed most of the songs which I already listen to a lot such as Opaline, Birthplace, Keep Me, Anchor, and my long favorite, Terraform. One of the thing that attract me to his music is his voice. I'm still amazed at how he managed to sing using his head voice and falsetto even live. It was such a mesmerizing experience. Did I cry? yes. I wasn't the only one, though (lol). If there's a chance that the band tour to Indonesia again, I'd love to go again.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour in Singapore
There are three concerts which I already plan on going since 2023; Coldplay, Novo Amor, and Taylor Swift. Two of them happened in March but the one I'm excited the most is the Eras Tour. I grew up with Taylor Swift's songs. The fact the she also includes most of her earlier songs excited me. For one night, I could sing and scream and dance, forgetting about the deadlines (ha!). I went to the concert with one of my close friends whom I haven't met in a while so that doubles the fun. This concert might be the highlight of my March.

That's all for my March wrap-up. I hope you all had a wonderful March. If you also attended the Eras Tour, what was your experience like? Hope it's as amazing as mine.
